Skinner pads OHL goals lead with two more in Kitchener's 5-2 win over Plymouth

Jeff Skinner didn't attend the most recent Canadian world junior camp, but he's doing his best to earn an invite next time around.

The OHL goals leader scored twice, including the game winner with 4:16 remaining, to lift the Kitchener Rangers to a 5-2 victory over the Plymouth Whalers on Friday afternoon.

Skinner, who is eligible for the 2010 NHL draft, gave the Rangers (25-9-3) a 3-2 lead with his 30th goal of the season. He fired his 31st into an empty net three minutes later as Kitchener moved past idle London and into sole possession of first place in the Midwest Division.

The 17-year-old native of Markham, Ont., has been on a tear of late, scoring 12 goals over his last nine games. Friday marked his third straight multi-goal effort.

Skinner remains on pace to challenge the Rangers franchise record of 63 goals set by Wayne Presley during the 1983-84 season. Skinner would need 32 goals over his final 31 games to equal the mark.

In other OHL action Friday, it was: Kingston 3 Peterborough 0; Windsor 6 Guelph 3; and Ottawa 4 Oshawa 3.

At Kitchener, Ont., Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and three assists in the victory, while John Moore and Julian Cimadamore also scored for Kitchener.

Leo Jenner and Tyler G. Brown countered for the Whalers (22-17-1), who rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals earlier in the third period.

Mavric Parks preserved the Rangers victory with a 37-save performance, while Scott Wedgewood and Matt Hackett combined to stop 30 shots for Plymouth.

Frontenacs 3 Petes 0

At Kingston, Ont., Tyler Beskorowany made 35 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Frontenacs blanked Peterborough.

Taylor Doherty, Corey Durocher and Ethan Werek scored for Kingston (18-18-2).

Jason Missaien made 36 saves for the Petes (20-18-2).

Spitfires 6 Storm 3

At Guelph, Ont., Eric Wellwood scored twice and added two assists as Windsor beat the Storm.

Justin Shugg also had a pair of goals for the Spitfires (31-4-4), while Adam Wallace and Mark Cundari added singles.

Michael Latta, Cody McNaughton and Taylor Beck responded for Guelph (14-20-3).

At Oshawa, Ont., Cody Lindsay broke a tie 2:02 into the third period, and Ottawa held on to beat the Generals.

Thomas Nesbitt, Steven Janes and Dalton Smith had the other goals for the 67's (19-15-5).

Jeff Brown, Alex Dzielski and Christian Thomas replied for Oshawa (16-18-4).
